Use your Rowenta steam iron to loosen jelly and syrup jars

There's nothing like syrups, jams and jellies. They are great as desserts and comfort foods. But I'm of the ranks who cut short their enjoyment of those sweets by trying to force open those sealed lids by banging on or banging with the jar itself; only to have it slip out of my hands fall on the floor or some hard surface resulting in breaking the jar.

It's as if they were made with glue. Well, no linger do you have to through out an otherwise good jar of sweetness due to breakage or unable to get into it.

As always, there are other ways to get to your sticky preserves, but it involves excessive water or hand strength that small or arthritic hands can't create. If turning the jar upside down and hitting the bottom doesn't do it, try this on for size. Fill your steam iron and set it to the highest heat and steam output. Place the jar upside down into the kitchen sink. Do Not place the iron directly against the jar. It could shatter, Hover the steam iron around the rim of the jar. Press the steam button to increase steam output.

If the jar is cool enough to handle, attempt to twist the cap off. If the cap doesn't move. Try tapping the bottom of the jar and twist again. Repeat steaming method until the syrup softens and allows you to turn the top. Once the top is off. Either place sandwich wrap around the threads of the cap before twisting on, or smear vegetable oil on the threads to prevent it from sticking to that degree.

This works in the same fashion for loosening nail polish bottles.
