Use your Rowenta steam iron to get out of tight situations around the garage.
Any mechanic knows that some items that needed to be tightly fitted together needed to be done
so without the use of pins and screws. The part just wouldn't work that way.
So They had to have a tight clearance tolerance by being pressed together. Well if you don't have a hydraulic
press, This may come in handy and save you some cash and a trip to the machine shop. You can do this with a flat
grill, maybe in your oven.
But if you don't want to have to explain to your wife why you're using the kitchen appliances for something other
thank cooking; not to mention the nagging about the potential of leaving an oily smell and smudges in her clean
kitchen. You may be wise to keep your exploits in the garage.
But your Portable Rowenta steam iron can come to the rescue. Just heat the steam iron to its
highest temp setting and steam output. Set the metal object on a surface that wont be affected by heat, such as a
metal table or concrete floor. Place the steam iron on top of the metal piece. and let it heat it.
Every so often use the steam burst button to push the hot steam into the micro crevices of the part. Use the
entire reservoir before attempting to separate the parts. The part should be no larger than the sole plate of the
steam iron.
While the part is still hot, use a socket and a broad head hammer to knock the pieces loose. The heat from the
steam iron causes the metal to expand enough to separate the pieces without having to take it to a machine shop,
saving time and money.
Typically, the new parts that need to be pressed on high a close tolerance from the factory. So, the came process
can be done to get the parts together. once the two parts are hot enough; they should have expanded to the point
where they slide in relatively easy. As they cool, they forge together without the need of a press.
