Sanitize jewelry with your Rowenta steam iron
Silver has anti-microbial properties as well as stainless steel. But for those who want to feel safer by taking
matters into their own hands. And those who wear costume jewelry, you may want to take heed.
It's widely known that steam kills germs. but you don't have to go out and buy a steam
cleaner or pay someone to do it for you. You don't have to waste gallon of water boiling your precious or
semi-precious jewelry.
Fill your steam iron and set it to the highest temperature and steam setting. place your jewelry in your stainless
steel sink. Because of the anti-microbial properties of the stainless steel, there's less chance of
re-contamination.
Hover your steam iron over your jewelry periodically pushing the steam button. Be careful not to
burn yourself as the steam is very hot. Turn the jewelry over and steam the other side. Lay your jewelry on a soft
cloth to dry. To avoid discoloration, do not get too close to the jewelry with direct heat from the steam iron.
I'm not a scientist, so I don't know how long you must engulf your jewelry with steam. I would suggest Googling it.
But it has been known for decades that steam kills germs. Using a tank of water or two may do the
trick.
It is not meant to present itself as practical, but when you're ironing, you can take the short time and disinfect
your jewelry. It's better than the alternative of using harsh chemicals that may irritate your skin if not properly
washed off the jewelry
