Use your Rowenta steam iron to loosen rusty hinges

It's ironic that the same process that caused the seizing of your hinges can be used to undo the process without breaking them. It is not a rare thing to destroy the rusted thing you were trying to salvage by being too robust in prying it open to lubricate it.

But, if you take these steps, you can have your cake and eat it, too. Water is well known to be the culprit in rusting things shut. But for small intervals. Water can be your saving grace to rescuing a rusted, sticky hinge.

Just heat your Rowenta steam iron to its hottest temp and highest steam output. Don't attempt to loosen the hinge by force. Place the steam iron as close to the hinge without touching it. Use the steam burst button to create steam. Now, at this point you can try to unscrew the hinge from the wood or metal and continue your work or keep at it with it attached.

Let the heat and steam loosen the scale and rust. Lightly try to open the door or flap. Don't force it. Let the heat and steam do the work. The steam will soften the deposits, and the heat will expand the metal to help loosen its grip. Once the hinge is open, use a hair dryer or compressed air to blow away any moisture. Once the moisture is gone, use a lubricant to revitalize the hinge. Lubricate the hinge and open and close it to maintain it. This is truly the best steam iron on the market.
