Revitalize rubber items and seals using your Rowenta steam iron

One of the main causes of leaky faucets is a failing seal due to dry, brittle rubber seals. Well. if they're not too far gone, you can restore your seals at least long enough until you have some free time to get to the store and by some more.

I can't tell you how many times I was pressed for time, yet, still needed to fix a leaky faucet, I didn't feel like going out. Nor did I want to buy a complete set of washers that only had one of what I needed, wasting the rest of the washers. The next time you're in this pickle, give this a try

How far you break down the tap is up to you. You can completely remove the washer, or try it with the washer in place. Place your Rowenta steam iron on its highest heat and steam output setting. Hover the iron over the washer, taking care not to get too close as to melt or warp the washer. Let the stream disperse onto the washer. Press the steam burst button to get maximum steam output.

Massage the washer lightly to help it soften and reshape. The idea is to conserve time, money and water. However, if the washer still leaks, try boiling the washer in a small amount of water. Place the washer and tap back on the set of the water valve. Have the faucet valve turned to off and let the valve seat in place while the washer is still hot but touchable. After about ten minutes, turn the water line on and test the seal. As I noted, seals aren't that expensive, but when you're pressed for time, this may work in a pinch. Yes, the Rowenta Steam Iron is quite the versatile gadget.
